Several players from that team—Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Hooda, and Dinesh Karthik—will most likely not be selected this time around. They haven’t been in or around the T20 setup since 2022.
It is official that Rohit Sharma will captain India in 2024. Suryakumar Yadav, his partner for the Mumbai Indians, is also guaranteed to make the team. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was forced to withdraw from the previous competition due to an injury, but should he recover, he too would be a strong contender.
With 25 of India’s 28 T20Is played since the T20 World Cup, Arshdeep Singh has a good chance of being selected for the team. Axar Patel, another all-around player, will undoubtedly be in the team, though he may not be in the starting lineup.
Who are the other likely members of India’s T20 World Cup squad for 2024?
First batting players: Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opener, may open with Rohit Sharma due to his outstanding performance over the past 18 months, but Shubman Gill will probably be his rival. However, Jaiswal has had a terrible IPL start, thus Gill might be the clear pick to start the innings.
Virat Kohli might come in at number three if he keeps up his current IPL performance. Having already reached a century, Kohli appears to be in fantastic health.
Middle-order batsmen: Rinku Singh’s outstanding performances for the Kolkata Knight Riders and India could perhaps earn him a position in the middle-order.
Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav are near lockdowns. But the latter’s dismal performance in the 2024 IPL has raised some questions.
People like Shivam Dube, Tilak Varma, and Shreyas Iyer are vying for a single place. A surprising addition to the competition is Riyan Parag, who is playing brilliantly for the Rajasthan Royals.
Wicket-keepers: For India, the wicketkeeper position is challenging. All of these players—KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Dhruv Jurel, and Jitesh Sharma—are in the running, and the winner will probably be determined by form and/or fitness.
Considering that he was removed off the BCCI’s central contract list earlier this month, Kishan didn’t appear like he would make it. However, his spectacular beginnings for MI at the top could see.
Pant may join the team because he has already displayed glimmers of his former self. Right now, Sanju Samson is also vying for a seat. Pant seemed to have gained an advantage in the race, though. It could be difficult for KL Rahul to break into the squad.
Fast bowlers: Siraj might accompany Bumrah if Shami doesn’t recover from his surgery in time. Siraj’s dismal performance for the RCB is concerning, though. As pace possibilities, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Deepak Chahar are all considered. However, Mayank Yadav of LSG will be the wildcard choice. However, his latest injury may make it more difficult to justify his inclusion on the team.
Spin bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav is probably going to be the team’s primary spinner, and Jadeja is a given. However, Kuldeep’s injury may be a little depressing.The squad should include Axar Patel as well. Despite being sidelined, Yuzvendra Chahal has had a strong IPL 2024 debut.
